Overview

Fitz Park provides a lovely flat tarmac, traffic free route to enjoy the mountain views. It's a multi-functional park with a cricket pitch, football pitch, fantastic children's play area, stunning views, path alongside the river, benches and is popular with dog walkers. It can get busy, and if you want to get out of the crowds you can access the quieter and more tranquil Upper Fitz Park either by crossing the road or by going under the bridge next to the river. Upper Fitz Park includes beautiful trees, benches, flat tarmac path, tennis courts and bowling greens. Cafe West is located in the main Fitz Park and provide a range of mainly tray bake cakes, hot and cold food and drinks and ice-creams. Cafe West has one accessible toilet, and separate male and female toilets which can be used by anyone, but they do ask for a donation for use of the toilets if you are not a customer of the cafe. The cafe is run by supported staff who have learning disabilities. All staff are very friendly and the cafe is very disability aware. Cafe West is dog friendly. Parking is available at the far end of Fitz Park, just off Crosthwaite Road, in one of two car parks. Alternatively there is limited on-street parking on Station Road, next to Cafe West and the museum.

Cafe West has step free access from Fitz Park, or via a lift from the upper museum level if required. Toilets

There is only one accessible loo which is clean and well maintained with grab rails. It has enough room for me to manoeuvre my wheelchair and for a carer, but can get busy at times.

Staff

Staff are very friendly and very disability aware.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I visit regularly as its a great park with a fab, reasonably priced accessible cafe.
