    Date of visit: March 2026

I am a disabled person. I have experience of challenges around: accessing toilets and moving around.

I use or have experience of: disabled toilet, wheelchair

Accessible toilet, on the left is a hand basin with a mirror above it. The toilet is in the rear right corner of the space with a fixed grab rail along the wall to the left of the picture, or to your right if you were using the toilet. On the other side of the toilet is a hinged grab rail that can be lowered for use as well as a vertical fixed grab rail. There is a sanitary disposal bin in the back right of the space as looking into the toilet room. The toilet space is approximately 6 foot wide by approximately 10 - 12 foot long. There is a Red Emergency Cord hanging correctly to the floor just to the right of the toilet as you look at it.This photo is showing the front area of the café to the left of the entrance. There is a grey tiled floor with tables on the left. There a a shallow tiled ramp that allows access to the slightly raised secondary area of seating. The gradient is very shallow and has dark bands of a rubberised tape across the ramp to improve visibility and grip on the ramp. There is also a hand rail on the right hand side of the ramp when going up. This small ramp is the route to take to gain access to the accessible toilet facilities. The entrance way into Fitzbillies Café is a step free access the photo shows a grey tiled floor with enough space to manoeuvre in a wheelchair. the walls are a tiled pale blue with a grey till desk. There is also a vertical pole holding an information leaflet asking for customers to wait there to be seated. this is the front area of the café.

There are 3 cafes in this little chain all within Cambridge city centre. I only visited this 1 café on Trumpington Street near King's College. It is a lovely little cafe/tea room with gorgeous cakes. The entrance is step free from the pavement (the pavement can get a bit crowded with tourists at busy times. Once inside there was a small but plenty big enough space to manoeuvre in my manual wheelchair. The staff immediately came to offer assistance and found us a table and removed a chair for me. They do have an accessible toilet towards the rear of the café, it is of a medium size, perfectly suitable for a manual wheelchair, however a larger powered chair user may struggle for turning space or transferring space. the route to through the café has a small ramped section which is very easy and then it is a little narrow due to the other tables and chairs. I had no issues whatsoever as other patrons very kindly shuffled in a bit to let me through. I had a thoroughly pleasant cup of coffee in a lovely setting, I would recommend.

a medium sized accessible toilet. larger power chair users may struggle for turning and transferring but otherwise it was fine, plenty of grab rails and a red cord hanging correctly on my visit.
