Overview

I have used the wheelchair spaces here a few times and although not ideal because of layout and position in the auditorium it’s better than nothing. Although on this occasion I was angry at being charged £18 for a ticket to find that my view was blocked by 2 cameras filming the concert. I was even asked by the cameraman if I could move my chair back so he could get access in front of me. Then the usherette asked me to move forward when I said the camera man asked me to move back??? Her reply was they shouldn’t have sold these seats for this show !!!!! So disabled people have to be denied because of filming not that maybe they could find another place for their cameras? Shame on you concert hall poor night all in must try harder

Transport & Parking

3.5

No disabled parking but there are car parks local that have lots of disabled spaces esp the Buchanan galleries

Access

2.5

Access not great the lift from ground to main level requires the door to be closed by a helper if you are on your own there is no one there to assist.

Toilets

2

Disabled toilet is on main floor. Disabled seating in 2 floors up. The lift can only take one wheelchair and maybe 2 slim people at a time. I have been late back to the performance because I couldn’t get an empty lift

Staff

2.5

Staff vary from very helpful to being trained by the SAS. Last time there one woman trying to clear the lift was pulling at my wheelchair to get me to come out so she could get me to the toilet she wanted me to go too. Thankfully the door closed before my carer said something she would regret

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Not sure I’ll go back to be honest. There was always something to spoil my night but not enough to stop me going not till this time. They really need staff development on customer care never mind providing proper disabled access

Venue Manager responded to this review

Dear Carole, Many thanks for this invaluable feedback. Sorry to hear your view was impeded by camera positions – you are right we will have to try harder to make sure this doesn’t happen again. We’ve worked in the past with the Glasgow Disability Alliance to respond to feedback from our patrons who use the accessible spaces, and endeavour to relocate them to arena stalls as far as is reasonably practical. This avoids any use of the lift, along with improving sightlines and emergency evacuation. While we can’t do this for every show, we do as much as possible. I’m sorry we couldn’t when you attended. Staff helpfulness can vary as you say. We often have to use a combination of our own staff and external sourced staff from a private company which may go some way to explaining the differences you mention but we strive to retrain and remind all staff of the importance of high standards of customer service. Thanks again for your feedback and I hope to see you again. Graham Butler McIntosh Venue Manager 20.07.18
