Venue: Civic House

How are Black people excluded/included within spaces and how does this relate to the wider context of their identities? Black Spatial Imaginaries explores the fluidity (often not by choice) of Black communities through the concept of Black Geographies. The films deal with a spectrum of topics such as environmental racism, gentrification, queerness, and the importance of community.

Programme 1:
The first part of this strand focuses on the natural environment and how land, sea + sky work to push and pull Black bodies within geographical landscapes.

Included within the program are two films by Alberta Whittle, between a whisper and a cry and from forest to concrete, which make visible the current effects of climate change within the Caribbean, centring the unspoken Black experience within the climate conversation.

This screening is captioned for D/deaf and Hard-of-Hearing audiences.

There will be a free workshop for Black people only before this screening. Further details can be found on glasgowshort.org.
