Overview

As one of the oldest operating Scotch single malt whisky distilleries in Scotland, accessibility is inevitably restricted. But, the welcoming staff in the visitor centre try to make every visitor enjoy their visit. The visitor centre, itself, is easily accessible by wheelchair, with a disabled parking space a few yards from the door. Our guide tried this best to give me – as a wheelchair user - as full inexperience as possible. Had I not admitted to several visits before restricted mobility, I think he would have tried even harder to give me more insight. But, inevitably in an 18th century building, there are areas are inaccessible to wheelchair users and all but the more agile sure-footed disabled visitors. My advice would be to phone the visitor centre to discuss your visit. After your visit you will be invited into the visitor centre to sample three of the distillery's single malt whiskies. Glen Garioch is pronounced "glen geary".

Transport & Parking

3.5

Glen Garioch distillery is on the aptly named Distillery road off the A947 in Oldmeldrum. The car park is on the left, with a disabled space right at the gate for the visitor centre .

Access

2.5

Disabled access for the visitor centre is good but, inevitably, restricted in the 18th century distillery buildings. Best, to check with the visitor centre when booking a tour.

We received a warm welcome from the visitor centre staff and our knowledgable guide who altered the tour route as much as possible to stick to ground level for my wheelchair.
