Hampton by Hilton

Hilton in York. It's dirty and lost all the sparkle that made staying in a Hilton hotel something special.

This was my first outing in a power wheelchair and was delighted with Hilton. Since our stay there, we have used other hotels who claim to be accessible and have been disappointed. Hampton room was spacious as was the bathroom and overall the accommodation was very comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant served up a reasonable menu in the evening and breakfast was good. We would definitely return.

The hotel is modern and wheelchair friendly with very helpful staff, it is, unfortunately at the top of a reasonably steep hill which might prove difficult for manual wheelchair users. The accessible room is of a good size and the shower room is ok. The actual shower is quite small with only one grab handle next to the shower controls directly opposite the fold down shower seat, which is too far away from the side wall to be able to lean against it for support. The tiles are of an uneven surface so removable grab-handles will not stick. Breakfast is included and is an excellent buffet arrangement. There is a bar (the back of reception) that serves food but no proper restaurant, which is not a problem as there are plenty of excellent, accessible, restaurants nearby, both at the top of the hill and down in the town centre. There is no hotel parking but blue badge holders can park on the road around the clock. There is an NCP car park at the bottom of the hill.
