    About

Hillington West Railway Station is a key transport hub located in the Hillington district of Glasgow. It serves the western portion of the large Hillington industrial estate as well as the nearby Penilee neighbourhood. Visitors use this station to access local businesses and industrial sites or to travel into Glasgow Central and towards the coastal towns of Greenock and Gourock. The station provides a functional and essential link for commuters and those exploring the wider West of Scotland area.

    Accessibility Highlights

Hillington West Railway Station features an induction loop for those who use hearing impairments. The station has accessible ticket machines on Platform 1 with suitable space for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre. There is a ramp from the street to Platform 2 providing step free access; however, Platform 1 is accessed via a footbridge with stairs. Tactile paving is installed on all platforms to assist blind and visually impaired people. Please note that there are no accessible toilets or dedicated accessible parking at this location.

A very long ramp ending in stairs

When you first arrive, as I did, at the Queen Elizabeth Avenue entrance to Hillington West station, it is not immediately obvious that it is going to end in disappointment, but the lack of parking or drop-off points and poor state of the paving in the area might be foreshadowing. Then again, if I had not had my powerchair, the 100 metres uphill incline to the station would have stopped me regardless of any stairs. Looking at it now on a satellite image, it seems like there is step-free access to platform 2 via a 60-70 metre-long path from Linburn Road, but I do not see how being able to use a station only for trains in one direction (towards Paisley and the coast in this case) would be helpful.
