Overview
The museum have an access group and lots of access information on their website. Very spacious, ramps and large lifts throughout. Workshops/activities in BSL and touch tours are some access features.
Transport & Parking
As per website, we drove to the back and the gate was opened to drive in and park by the building. 3-4 accessible bays on a slight incline, hard smooth surface. A few speed ramps in the park.
Access
Wide open display spaces, ramps and lifts. Staff in almost each room who can help with doors to get out but you may need help with getting in. Three floors with large lifts. No display was so high that I couldn't read/see or touch it from seated. Some rooms are dark to preserve exhibits. Smooth to ride through and very spacious. Activities were signed and details of touch and audio tours are on their web site.
Toilets
See photo. Not 100 % standard but spacious. Right support rail is a little further away than standard and the seat is permanently raised. Soap is a pump dispenser. Baby changing in all toilets but not marked on the door so parents were taking up the accessible toilet. Emergency cord does not reach the floor and does not have handles. Good floor grip, slightly wet. No hoist or changing bench.
Staff
Very helpful and polite.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Cafe had good space around tables both inside and out. I could read the board menu from low down. Great food, hot meals and lots of cakes! Assistants/carers were free with normal adult ticket. Most of the museum is free. The grounds and gardens are hilly but smooth concrete paths.
