IKEA

After a recent trip to IKEA, I spotted a chair that I thought looked really supportive and comfortable. Unfortunately I cannot transfer without my standing hoist so that was not an option. When we got home, my wife decided to phone customer services and ask if they would mind us bringing my standing hoist to the store to try the chair. They were delighted and actively encouraged it! I rolled into the store, my wife following me with my standing aid and the staff didn’t even bat an eyelid. They did check to see if we needed help and discussed the chair in question. It turns out that I was right, the chair is super comfortable and supportive and I am absolutely delighted that I was able to bring my equipment, no questions asked. On another note, there is ample parking, a changing places toilet and an accessible toilet (two doughnuts can be done in here) at the beginning of the store and a narrow accessible loo at the end (best to reverse in if you need to transfer).

No working wheelchairs were available. Access to elevators for wheelchair/pram users was limited as the majority of them were broken

I visited this IKEA for the first time recently and loved the accessibility. Super thumbs up for a Changing Places toilet meant I could visit all day and didn’t have to cut my day short!
