Very welcoming
Leeds Minster is an impressive large church with lots of beautiful and interesting things to look at. I love the pretty colours of stained glass windows and reading about the lives of people from centuries ago on their memorial stones. Speaking of memorial stones – a lot of the ground is made up of them, so you have to walk or wheel across them, which can feel a little disrespectful, but I suppose they knew what they were doing!
I felt very welcome, even as someone who was not coming for the religious aspect. I especially enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere in the Lady Chapel and was happy to see the posters about being a sanctuary church and supporting refugees.
Apart from the services, the church also hosts events like candlelight concerts, one of which was being set up as I visited. Because of this, there were a few extra bumps to navigate with the cables, but they were well covered and marked with black and white contrast, so I could easily go across.
I did not have a lot of time when I visited, but otherwise I would have taken a little break at the café, which offers inexpensive refreshments and some light entertainment with a shelf of books and jigsaw puzzles. There is a water dispenser right by the door to the left of the counter. The counter is not lowered, but there is an open section and plenty of helpful volunteers.
