Disabled Travellers visit Lucy’s tearoom, Stow (part 2 of 6 reviews)
This grade 11 listed building is ready to serve you with a happy smiling welcome each day, a pleasant no fuss little tea room, opened from 10.00am to 4pm every day, and no need to book a table, they invite you to just turn up and they will seat you, serving delightful home made food, when possible, using locally produced products, from a good breakfast, coffee breaks (the coffee is good, and we recommend their cheese scones, do try) a hearty lunch, and a traditional afternoon tea.
You may sit indoors in this 300 year old building, with old wooden beams and pale flagstones, plainly but tastefully decorated, or if weather permits, you can sit outside in their small but very nice courtyard.
(Photo 1). Disabled parking has a number of bays in “The Square” free for three hours for disabled with a blue badge, and bays can be found close to the tea room, at the end of a typical Honey coloured Cotswold line of cottages.
(Photo 2). It’s only a short walk for your carer, and easy enough to move around on the narrow path to the tea room.
(Photo 3). There is a level entrance into the tearoom, but it is small inside so you may have to leave chair by the entrance itself. Or you may wish to sit outside when you can.
(Photo 4). There’s nothing but plainness about the tea room, no flashy counters, as it’s all served to you by friendly young staff.
(Photo 5). The wooden table and chairs are clean and well looked after, but the window bay has a step to get up, but at least the menu has a nice selection to chose from.
(Photo 6). The bay window looks right over The Square and the car park.
(Photo 7). As it was early morning, we made the right choice with a decent cup of coffee, and large enough tea cakes, but Veronica thought the warm cheese scone was truly delightful, one of the best she has had, as you could taste the cheese itself. Highly recommended.
(Photo 8). There is a door in the corner that leads you out to the courtyard and toilets, but it does have a small step, so that may be a nuisance for some disabled, but thank goodness that we won’t be able to use the high steps to get up and down from their upstairs tea room, no disabled could cope with them.
(Photo 9). This is a very cosy and pleasant courtyard with just a few chairs that stand on small stoned ground, that would reflect the heat on a warm sunny day, quiet nicely maintained, but it’s all to difficult for any wheelchair to get out there.
(Photo 10) at the far end is a very clean and tidy passage that will guide you to toilet.
(Photo 11). Again very clean and well maintained, but it’s a mixed toilet cubicle, but nicely decorated inside, but no pull cord, but there is a small grab rail, but could be difficult to use.
We most certainly enjoyed our coffee break here, an ideal quick visit before moving on to see other parts of Stow on the Wold.
