Based in a Tudor Gatehouse on the site of the London Priory of the Order of St John, the Museum tells the story of an ancient religious military Order, from its origins caring for sick pilgrims in Jerusalem, through to its modern-day role with St John Ambulance.

Disabled Access Information Provided by Museum of the Order of St John

Disabled Access at Museum of the Order of St John

The main Museum galleries are on ground level and there is step-free access throughout. The historic rooms on the upper floors are not accessible to visitors using a wheelchair however, a virtual tour is continuously screened in the Link Gallery and you can also explore the Museum online. For access to the Church (located 100m away from the Museum across Clerkenwell Road), visitors using a wheelchair are asked to call in advance of their visit. This will help us to ensure that a member of staff is available to facilitate access to all areas of the Church site with the exception of the Crypt, which is located at the bottom of a steep staircase. The Museum has a shop, toilets (including an accessible toilet) and baby changing facilities. Our nearest Changing Places toilet is located in the Barbican Centre. We can provide a wheelchair for use onsite and folding stools are available in the Museum Galleries for visitors to borrow. We can provide a bowl of drinking water for assistance dogs. There is a public toilet in the Museum for disabled visitors. • From the Museum galleries to the public toilet, there is level access. • The toilet door is 900mm wide. • There is a space of 1160mm in front of the toilet. • The seat is 480mm high. • The direction of transfer to the toilet is from the front only. • There are handrails in the toilet. • The nearest Changing Places toilet is located 0.6 miles away in the Barbican Centre.
