The New Theatre is situated in the beautiful and historic City of Oxford on a site used for theatrical entertainment for almost 190 years. With a capacity of 1785, the theatre plays host to leading opera and ballet companies, contemporary dance, West End musicals and sell-out pop and rock concerts.

Access is good but wheelchairs have to go at the back.

You can see the shows but wheelchairs have to sit at the back. It is OK if your eyesight is OK but might be hard if not. They tend to put on big shows such as ballet, tribute bands, musicals. I saw Stomp there, some time ago, which was excellent. There is a platform lift down to the Stalls, which the staff will help you with. Wheelchairs have to go there. There is a powered door at the front. Carer gets in free.

Disabled Access Information Provided by New Theatre

Disabled Access at New Theatre

There is step-free access to the venue, our Box Office, Stalls Bar, Merchandise Kiosk and via a lift to the Stalls Auditorium. Please be aware that there is no step-free access to our lower ground or upper levels. If you need to use an accessible entrance to the venue, please make yourself know to the Front of House and Security Staff on arrival, and they will direct you to our accessible entrance. There are also doors that can be operated automatically by a push button, please notify staff if you wish to enter the building this way instead. There are four wheelchair positions located at the rear of the Stalls on our accessible bay, with room for one essential companion to sit alongside in a free standing chair. This area can be accessed by the lift. There are two wheelchair positions located at the front of the stalls. An essential companion and other guests can sit alongside in auditorium seating. Assistance dogs are welcome. Please inform the venue at the time of booking so that provisions can be made in advance.

Transport nearby New Theatre

A frequent Park & Ride service runs in Oxford City Centre from many different directions. Many of these services stop on George Street opposite the venue. The Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach also serve the City Centre. The Train Station is a short distance from the venue. Gloucester Green Bus Station is located just off George Street with frequent coaches to and from London.

Toilets features at New Theatre

We have one accessible toilet off the main foyer that can be used before the auditorium is opened. There is another toilet located to the right of the Stalls auditorium which will be available throughout the performance, during the interval and at the end of the performance. If you need assistance, please ask a member of staff.

Accessible services at New Theatre

We have hearing assistance systems, MobileConnect, an Induction Loop system for those who use hearing aids and headsets for those without. We advise arriving ahead of time before the performance to ensure the hearing assistance you are using is connected before the show begins. If you wish to use MobileConnect please download the app to your smart phone before your arrival and speak to our Access Usher to get connected once you arrive. We also have guides on how to download the app if you are having trouble with this. If you wish to use our Induction Loop or headset, please speak to our Access Usher or the Box Office on arrival. Audio Description is provided on certain performances as advertised. Customers who have booked through the access scheme for an AD performance where a Touch Tour is organised will be contacted by the venue. Accessible seat service from the bar can be requested through the Front of House staff. We also have a Delivered at Seat Service accessible through a QR code on the seat in front of you, on signs around the venue, or FOH staff can provide.
