    About

Newcastle Central Station is a major transport hub and a historic Grade 1 listed landmark located in the heart of the city centre. As a primary gateway to North East England, this busy station connects travellers to local and national destinations while offering a variety of shops, cafes, and restaurants within its impressive Victorian architecture. Visitors can enjoy a range of amenities, from quick refreshments and well known retail outlets to a comfortable first class lounge, all situated just a short walk from the iconic Newcastle Castle and the vibrant Quayside.

    Accessibility Highlights

The station provides step free access to all platforms via lifts and a subway, although some gradients on the footbridge are steep. Accessible parking is available in both the long stay and short stay car parks, with sixteen designated spaces in the main parking area. Facilities include accessible toilets located on platforms three and four, as well as a dedicated Changing Places toilet on platform twelve, all of which are operated by a National Key Scheme radar key. The station also features induction loops at designated points, tactile paving along platform edges, and a passenger assistance lounge for those requiring additional support during their journey.

Newcastle Station is accessible but some toilet issues currently

The station has good accessibility and passenger assist works well for assistance and ramps to and from trains. However I had an issue with toilets. The disabled toilet near platform 11 (the main concourse side of the station and the exit side) seems to be locked by the station. A radar key doesn't work and there is no sign on the door with any information. This was the case on both days I was there. Another lady in a wheelchair was also unable to access this toilet. When leaving the station on my return train, I reported it to one of the staff who said it was necessary to contact someone for a key. I suggested a sign on the door stating who to contact and how. Either that or just leave it unlockable by radar key. I've emailed lner to point this out. Will update if I get a response or anything is improved. It is quite stressful being unable to go to a toilet. I was told there was one on the other side of the station, but it is a large station and a long way to go if you have a train to catch at that side, not the other side.

Overground, Underground- Train Station and Subway

First opened in 1850 Newcastle Railway Station, also known as Newcastle Central is a busy station in Newcastle town centre. With plenty of places to grab a bite or a beer while you wait, an accessible subway station and a Changing Places toilet it has much of the essentials, though the quality of the latter isn't great.
