The Parkhead Hub is a new multi purpose venue that opened in May 2025. At the hub, you will find the Social Blend café, Parkhead Library, The Forge Medical Practice and event and meeting spaces for public use. On site you will also find an impressive Changing Places toilet, although it would be better if some bins were moved.
Disabled Access In and Around
Good
The main entrance has two sets of automatic doors that are activated by touchpads. The building has level access throughout and the lifts to the upper floors include braille markings, a hearing loop and a perimeter rail. Signage is clear and the space is very open, giving plenty of room for most mobility devices to move around safely. There are seating areas throughout the building and all internal doors are automatic.

There is a large car park near the hub with 143 standard parking spaces, 9 accessible parking spaces with hatched markings and 16 EV spaces. The charging points did not appear to be online during my visit. A point to note is that the accessible parking spaces seem to be very popular. I expect this is because of the medical services available on site – but worth knowing. There is also a taxi rank near the entrance and a bus stop just outside on Duke Street. Cartyne Railway Station is just under a mile away – whilst it is technically acessible, it has some off the most severe ramps I've encountered at a railway station.

Accessible Toilets
Good
The Changing Places toilet is on the ground floor, directly across from the reception desk. The door requires a RADAR key and opens outwards. I didn’t have my key, but the receptionist was happy to loan me one, which was much appreciated. I mention this because I’ve often been told I can’t use a Changing Places toilet without a carer, which of course isn’t correct. Inside, there is a ceiling track hoist, an adult change bed with a shower and a height adjustable sink. The toilet pan is on the rear wall, with a contrasting seat and silver rails on either side. One frustrating aspect is that several bins are placed in the right side transfer space. Tnd there is no left side transfer space due to the position of the sink. On the right side of the toilet there is also a colostomy shelf. The emergency red cord hangs freely to the floor. The adjustable sink has a large basin, a sensor tap and rails on either side.
