    About

Pleasance Edinburgh opened as part of the 1985 Festival Fringe with two theatres facing onto a deserted courtyard-come-car-park at an unfashionable eastern end of Edinburgh’s Old Town. 36 years later the Pleasance has become one of the biggest and most highly respected venues at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, with an international profile and a network of alumni that reads like a who’s who of contemporary comedy, drama and entertainment. The Pleasance Dome is located on Bristo Square and contains 5 performance spaces, these are: •10Dome (First Floor) •JackDome (First Floor) •QueenDome (Ground Floor) •KingDome (First Floor) •AceDome (First Floor) In addition to these performance spaces, the Dome is also home to: •Press Office (First Floor) •Brooke’s Club (First Floor)

    Accessible but needs some improvements.

Visited this venue to attend a show at Edinburgh Festival. Level Access Accessibility to the venue, however I discovered the show I was attending in the “KingDome” was situated up 20+ steps. The Venue staff were fantastic assisting me with early access to choose a seat suited to my disability needs without feeling rushed and a member of staff assisted myself & others with access to the lift also they actually accompanied me to show me where the disabled toilet was, rather than just giving directions, which I felt was more of a personal touch especially as the venue was getting busy at the time. Inside the “KingDome” There wasn’t much space between the performance space and the seating so not sure how wheelchairs would be situated if there were more than 2 in the room, without blocking the exit area. Also, the seating was very close together and uncomfortable, I folded my coat as some padding to sit on. Otherwise a nice enough venue space to attend a show during the festival.

An entire semi circle for wheelchairs!

The Pleasance Dome is fully accessible and full of helpful staff to help and guide you. There are a few halls in this venue for shows, I attended the Queens Hall. The ground semi circle in front of the stage area i dedicated to wheelchair users, those with mobility issues and their companions so their is plenty of room!

Gets busy but staff are very helpful

Its pretty easy to get about as a wheelchair user apart from when its super busy (but that's the same for everyone). Staff were excellent, very attentive and took us into the show beforehand, offering us a choice of seating. They also offered our friend a seat while we queued for the show to start going in. Only gripe was the challenge finding the accessible loo as it wasn't very well sign posted and had flyers all over the door which made it very hard to spot!
