I'm generally a fan of Premier Inn as I find their offering to be quite consistent and I have yet to have a bad experience at one of their hotels. I chose this particular hotel because it is close to Dundee railway station and had favourable reviews on Euan’s Guide. I booked an accessible room with a bath and made sure to take advantage of it. With an on-site restaurant and decent local transport links, I'd recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable and accessible stay in Dundee.

When you come in through the front entrance the reception desk is straight ahead. The desk is quite low and has a sign indicating a hearing loop. To the right there are two self check-in terminals, although I did not use them. My room was along the corridor to the right of the reception area, through a fire door that staff helped me with. From the foyer you can also get to the restaurant by going through the doors behind reception and turning left. The door to my room was heavy but manageable. The floor is carpeted with the usual Premier Inn pattern and the layout works well for a wheelchair user. There is enough space to pass the foot of the bed and to move around to the left side, where the window and curtains are also within easy reach. There is no space to transfer on the right side so it is a left-side transfer only. Power sockets and light switches are on both sides of the bed, which was handy. The TV sits at the foot of the bed with a desk beneath it and more sockets for charging devices. The bed was comfortable, just what I needed after a day out in the cold.

I travelled to this place by walk or wheel

There is a large car park outside the hotel which carries around to the Beefeater restaurant. There are at least ten accessible parking spaces and a good number of standard spaces. There is an EV charger near the restaurant but I have not been able to find any further information on it. Dundee railway station is just across the road, about 320 metres away. You will also find a bus stop at the station.

Accessible facilities: Electric Vehicle Charging, Drop-off or pick up point, Dedicated on-site parking

    Accessible Toilets

In the foyer I noticed a door with the typical wheelchair user symbol, which I assume is an accessible toilet, but it was locked and had a sign advising that it is for team members only. I can however speak about the bathroom in the accessible room. The toilet is accessed via a sliding wooden door, which I found to be quite lightweight. The toilet pan is just ahead. There is space for a left-side transfer, though there is a red cord hanging in the space. The flush is on the wall to the left when seated. There are silver rails on either side, which contrast well enough against the white walls. The sink has a small basin, a lever-style tap, silver rails on either side and a large mirror above. There is plenty of knee space under the sink and the connected worktop area for those using wheelchairs. My room had a low bath with silver rails and a second red cord that hangs to the right when in the bath. The shower gel dispenser is in the centre of the bath. I used this to make myself a wee bubble bath, as the water pressure is quite high. I know this bathroom may not be suitable for everyone, but if you are able to transfer into the bath it may work for you.

The staff were very helpful, happy to open the door and show me to my room. They also made sure I knew the exit routes in case of an emergency.
