    Riverside Museum

    Glasgow

    OK but could be better

    2.5

    Date of visit: June 2024

I have experience of challenges around: a hidden impairment, moving around and seeing.

As a serverly sight impaired (registered blind) person I find the accessibility options for people such as my self woefully inadequate, the writing on exhibits isn't large enough And still aftet all these years there are exhibits over 20ft or 6.1m on a wall whete even fully sighted people struggle , This is a case of form over function Not fit for purpose I also recently observed people having difficulty wuth the hearing loop not functioning as it should Yes it does have wheelchair access and accessible loos , but hardly a consolation providing these at the exclusion of other disabled users The only saving grace are the staff who are usually helpfull and well mannered The cafe if a tad pricy does sell a selection on very good hot drinks ks and good cakes! (Huge plus)

    Disabled Access In and Around

As a blind person with residual sight I can tell you the signage was pretty average bordering on ok, at busy times the passages amd access can get congested , on father's day there where large groups with many unattended children running about this could be a safety hazard

    Parking & Transport

    Poor

I dont drive as blind ... person driving had difficulty finding disabled parking , more so as limited spaces where all full , 12 spaces are not enough when more than half where being occupied by non blue badge holders THIS NEEDS ENFORCED

    Additional Information

The place needs to resolve the issues both access to exhibits having them over 6 meters on a wall is a disgrace, , it's the exact same exhibits that were there when it opened minus the addition of one previously used glasgow subway carriage that was recently retired , and replaced another exhibit, so exact same amount , all cars trains and bikes ect exactly as they have been from 2011 , where are the missing exhibits from gkasgows two previous transport museums?
