About

Edinburgh’s Sistine Chapel, The Mansfield Traquair Centre is open to the public when not in use for functions. The building is a former Catholic Apostolic Church which was designed by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson and completed in 1885. The outstanding feature is the scheme of mural decoration painted by Phoebe Anna Traquair in the 1890s. The recently renovated building has found a new life. It now houses the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations and is a hub for voluntary organisations. The fabulous main area is managed by Heritage Portfolio as one of their leading venues for functions and weddings.

Disabled Access at Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations

Visitor access is via the main red doors at the front of building. Access is entrance-level. Taxis can drop outside. There are dropped curbs on the pavement. Entry is via an automatic door, press buzzer for access and assistance. There is a standard lift at the front of the building with clearance for an electric wheelchair, disabled lift in office area.

We have our own car park but booking is essential. There is a steep slope and access is via the staff entrance at the back door so access should be pre-booked. There is also ample on-street parking on East London Street with level access and dropped curbs to the main door on Mansfield Place.

We have 2 accessible toilets. The main visitors toilet is next to the lift with turning space for an electric wheelchair. Dimensions: 238cm x 166cm. Standard baby changing table.
