    The Scottish Crannog Centre

    About

Join the 21st Century Crannog Community where you will be guaranteed a warm welcome and taken on a fascinating journey into Scotland's prehistory. Walk in the footsteps of the original Crannog dwellers and immerse yourself in village life with original artefacts; demonstrations of textiles, cooking, woodworking, blacksmithing and ancient crafts. Take in the atmosphere inside the reconstruction Iron Age Roundhouse and see our Crannog being built out onto the water...with it opening to the public in Spring 2026. Dogs are very welcome in the cafe, village and shop. Our site is an archaeological experiment. The Scottish Crannog Centre has evolved over the years to become a unique insight into life in the Iron Age. Throughout your visit, you will find a team of passionate, knowledgeable and friendly interpreters to help transport you through your Iron Age adventure. There is a playpark at the far end of the site, including a larger swing for those with additional needs. Our Sensory Garden opened in 2025 as a quiet and sensory place for anyone to go when needing a reset or a space to decompress.
