    Tasty treats

The Crucible Kitchen is the café at the bottom of the Crucible Theatre in the centre of Sheffield. I had a lovely time at this café, it had a nice atmosphere and lots of food and drink options. There was a selection of seating available, some bench seating along the wall, some standalone tables and chairs and some bar-height options too. Throughout the café area the flooring was a combination of wood laminate and some was carpet. There were also some power sockets available by some of the tables for people to charge devices including mobility devices. The counter to order was quite high and I had to stretch to see some of the food options on display but the staff were really helpful and brought my order over to my table. There were two accessible toilet options, the women’s toilets had a larger stall that operated as an accessible toilet and there were lowered sinks and hand dryers in here too. I'm not sure if it was the same in the men's. There was also a Changing Places toilet in here as well. I really enjoyed this café and I actually ended up taking my Mum there too!

Changing Places toilet at the Crucible Theatre

The Changing Places toilet at the Crucible Theatre was a decent sized toilet with most of the equipment you would expect. It was located on the lowest level of the theatre, in the Crucible Kitchen which is the café and bar area. The toilet is open to the public as well as those using the theatre or café. A RADAR key is not needed to get into the toilet. It is a standard door handle with a lock on the inside that twists. It had a ceiling hoist, height-adjustable bench, toilet with grab rails, and a small sink. It was not the biggest Changing Places toilet and it did not have the fanciest equipment but it had all the important things and was a well located option for those looking for a Changing Places toilet in the centre of Sheffield.

Wonderful support from time of booking

Sheffield Theatres allow you to register as disabled, making it simple to add a free carers ticket when booking online, without any faff. Everytime I book a disabled ticket they email to check what, if any, additional support I may need to access the venue, including whether I will need a wheelchair, if I'm bringing an assistance dog etc. The closed captioning at certain performances is very good, and I believe audio description is available for some performances, although I haven't used it. On the day, staff are friendly and helpful, there is a lift (but only to one side of the theatre, so check before you book seats), and at least 1 disabled toilet, although this isn't a very big space. Someone with a motorised wheelchair may struggle. Sheffield Council offer free on street parking to Blue badgeholders and there are multiple private car parks near by.
