Overview

The St James Quarter shopping centre has over time become more and more useful and easier to access. Maybe that’s to do with familiarity or the gradual opening of new stores. It certainly has most of the high street favourites with John Lewis, Boots, Superdrug, and of course the wild card of a Lego store!

Transport & Parking

3.5

It is handy for the bus and in time will be served by the nearby tram line. The main word of caution for fellow wheelchair users is that it can be a feat of planning as it’s on several levels. Choosing which bus to arrive on can be linked to where the bus stops are relative to the various levels. It’s a fairly good roll from the East end of Princes Street. The complex does have a car park with numerous accessible parking bays too.

Access

5

Once you get inside it is bright, spacious and easy to get around. Several choices of lift will take you between the floors. Each store is very differ but a common thread is the ability to just roll in the door which is great.

Toilets

4.5

The centre has a main complex of toilets on floor 1 but it’s not obvious. Head for the food ‘court’ toward the eastern end and look for a gap between the shops next to the Sky shop. Following the corridor down you’ll find the accessible loo, the standard toilets and a Changing Places Toilet. If you want to use the Changing Places Toilet you have to go and get the key from the customer services desk in the main concourse of floor one. Such a missed opportunity as it would have been so much better and easier with a RADAR lock.

Staff

5

Staff are generally very helpful and will point you in the right direction if you get stuck finding places.
