Tesco Extra Kilmarnock
I visit this Tesco Extra regularly, usually every Monday evening, and the staff are always lovely. I have never had a problem with any of the staff, and they have always been friendly and helpful.
Overall, I find the store itself very accessible and easy to shop in when it isn't crowded. However, I personally find it extremely difficult during busy periods. I use a wheelchair, and my wheelchair has been bumped into quite a lot by other customers, which can be very frightening. Some people are extremely apologetic, while others don't seem to notice or simply don't make room for me to get past.
I've also had people climb over my wheelchair, lean over me to reach products without saying "excuse me", or stand directly in front of me when they want me to move so they can get something. This happens regularly. Rather than simply communicating with me and asking politely if I can move, some people just stand there, freeze, glare at me or look completely lost. This can leave me feeling embarrassed and as though I'm in the way, when I'm simply trying to shop like everyone else.
Customers could definitely make more of an effort to communicate with wheelchair users. A simple "excuse me, could I just get past you?" would make things much easier. Thankfully, nobody has actually tried to physically move my wheelchair, because that certainly wouldn't end well for either of us.
Because of these experiences, I tend to avoid going during the daytime and instead visit in the evening, when I have found it to be much quieter. From my own experience of going every week, Monday evenings seem to be one of the least busy times.
The store can also be very loud and overwhelming for me personally. I would strongly recommend that anyone who is sensitive to noise considers using ear defenders or listening to music while shopping, particularly during busier periods.
Overall, it is a lovely Tesco and I have always had positive experiences with the staff. My concerns are mainly about how crowded, noisy and overwhelming the store can become, as well as the way some customers interact with me as a wheelchair user. For me personally, going at a quieter time makes a huge difference and allows me to shop much more comfortably.
