The Colosseum

We visited as part of a holiday in Italy, with tour leader and local guide. Our visit was marred because of the lack of awareness of the difficulties of manoeuvring mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs. Our second group who visited the next day learnt from our experience. This review includes the lessons learnt.

I visited the Colosseum early June in a wheelchair, with my friend pushing. As with all the venues we visited in Rome there were no queues for disabled visitors and entry was free for both myself and my friend. There is a lift to the upper floors and the route was well signposted. The Colosseum was magnificent and well worth a visit.

The Colosseum was one of the highlights of my trip! We went as early as possible and this worked really well to avoid the busy June crowds. Access was surprisingly good, and in places it was even excellent. At some points there was a bit of rough terrain, but not everywhere.
