    Yummy afternoon tea , fully accessible and fabulous experience

    Fully accessible and fabulous experience. We had afternoon tea, which was very yummy and there was even a child’s version, to their great excitement. Wheelchair accessible and staff were very helpful and jolly too. The strings and piano were a perfect accompaniment. View of the Baths from the windows too.

    So much better than I expected from an ancient site

    We visited the Roman Baths whilst on holiday in Somerset. I'll be honest, I didn't expect it to be that accessible, given the age and type of site but they have really thought about how wheelchair access is possible to all areas. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and were really impressed!

    Disabled Access Information Provided by The Roman Baths

    Disabled Access at The Roman Baths

    Lifts are available and 90% of the site is accessible to wheelchair users. There is level access from the Abbey Church Yard entrance to most of the ground floor areas. Access to the teaching space, mezzanine displays, lower museum, Great Bath and East Baths is via four accessible lifts. For visitors with hearing impairments we have British Sign Language tours available on Opus Touch handsets available free of charge with your ticket. These are issued beside our audioguides. If you are a hearing aid user, we can provide you with an audioguide compatible with the "T" switch on hearing aids. We can also provide a printed copy of the audioguide text. For visitors with visual impairments we have some Braille information panels and tactile models as well as a more descriptive audioguide for people with visual impairments, which describes things in greater detail. Braille transcripts of the audioguide are available on request. We are happy to arrange object-handling sessions for groups with special needs. We have an Accessibility Guide and also specific guides for visitors with autism and claustrophobia. For visitors with autism we can provide quiet spaces and we have a number of resources to support a visit.

    Toilets features at The Roman Baths

    There is a unisex accessible toilet with level access next to the reception hall. The fire alarm includes a flashing light. The surface of the floor is non slip laminate. Door width: 890mm (35in); with emergency pull cord and response provided. Support rails but limited transfer space on the left: 540mm (21in) width. Height of WC from floor to seat: 480mm (18 ¾ in). From far wall to front of toilet: 1420mm (55 ¾ in). Basin with mixer lever tap. A second unisex accessible toilet is at the West end of the Kings Bath corridor which is immediately after the Temple Precinct area. This toilet is accessed by a Radar key which is available from our staff. Emergency pull cord and response provided. There are support rails each side of the toilet and each side of the basin. There is a basin with mixer lever tap and a baby changing table. The fire alarm includes a flashing light. The surface of the floor is non-slip laminate. There are baby changing facilities. From the lift to the public toilet, the route is 851mm wide, or more. The toilet door is 889mm wide. The direction of transfer is to the left. There is 1168mm at the side of the toilet. The toilet seat is 482mm high. The nearest full size wheelchair accessible WC is at the Victoria Art Gallery in Bridge Street.
