Venue Description

The Witham is Barnard Castle's vibrant Arts Centre, with an Art Gallery, Shop, Box Office, Cafe and Bar. With a Victorian Music Hall and Arts Centre, joined together by an architecturally-award winning Cafe Bar and meetings rooms, The Witham offers a wealth of cultural, commercial and community events throughout the year. The wide variety of entertainment includes Theatre, Film, Live Screenings, Comedy (thanks to the Funny Way To Be Comedy Club), Contemporary and Classical Music, workshops, lectures and more. The Witham prides itself on it's friendly team of staff and volunteers who are always happy to help any customer whether that be in the cafe or during an evening show. With an accessible toilet, reserved seats for wheelchair spaces, a hearing loop, complimentary tickets for carers for cinema and live broadcast screenings as well as ramp entrances into the building, The Witham understands the needs of disabled customers.

Accessibility

The Witham is an accessible building - we have three floors, all of which can be accessed through a lift. We have wide corridors to ensure wheelchair users can access everything that happens in the building. We have a loop in the Music Hall for those who have hearing requirements. There is an accessible toilet in the light and airy cafe area. All staff and volunteers are always ready help carry refreshments and aid customers to their seats. We prefer if a customer with a disability rings the box office in advance and lets us know that they are attending an evening performance.

Accessible Performances

Our Victorian Music Hall is accessible to all our visitors. We have seating on the first row of the raked seating for wheelchair users and offer free tickets to carers for all The Witham music, theatre and film events. For many of our folk music nights we have cabaret style seating which also facilitates wheel chair space - again we advise for disabled customers to arrive in advance so we can seat them first.
