Best hour ever
This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Wheelchair
This company are so helpful, answering any questions you have before either on the phone or by email. They put my mind at ease about my first trip. They are so understanding and caring whilst they help you down the jetty and onto the boat. If in a wheelchair they have straps to keep your wheelchair safe whilst out on on the water. They make sure everyone is in place and happy before they set off. They have waterproof capes to keep you dry and warm. The best bit is the feeling of freedom. It doesn't matter what your disability is as soon as your on the boat you feel as if you can do anything. I am unable to drive due to medical problems but here I get to drive a boat everyone who is on the boat never stops smiling. Its infectious and it really is the best time I've had since my disability has got worse and made huge changes in my life. This was also an experience I could enjoy with my family, there really isn't a divide between those of us with medical issues or disabilities and those who are able bodies whilst on the boat. All the fears, worries and difficulties we face everyday are all forgotten when that boat starts and your speeding through the water. Definitely recommend to anyone who doesn't get sea sick. You really will hurt from smiling and laughing.
Transport & Parking
This is based down Gunwharf Portsmouth, they have a few rows of disabled bays which are very wide so enough room to get any aids out and set up. They have a couple of lifts to the car park. They are next to a train station and a bus depot for those who travel via public transport. The access from and to all these sites is good, with newly paved areas including nice ramps.
There are lifts to and from the car park and the access to the streets and public transport are all newly paved areas all of which include ramped areas and accessible crossings.
Gunwharf have a couple toilet blocks which do include disabled toilets.
Staff on Wetwheels are amazing and so knowledgeable on their job and how to help people with a variety of different disabilities and different mobility aids. They really couldn't do more for you and you feel as if you know them and it's a family trip out.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
I have been on Wetwheels twice and I would go again. Only advise is be prepared to get wet!
