Overview

Set in the heart of Blackpool the Winter Gardens is not difficult to miss with large ornate entrances welcoming you in. Once inside it was a step back in time with places to take afternoon tea or something a little stronger, the adjoining Opera House and the theatre and ballroom and lots to see. Our trip was to the recently renovated Spanish Hall with its elegant styling to look like a Spanish village.

Transport & Parking

Getting to the Winter Gardens for us was a short wheel from the railway station. Several folk were arriving by taxi and being dropped off at the door. The other option may be to walk up from the tram stop or the nearby bus stops.

Access

Once we worked out which of the main doors was level access we went inside. The floors and surfaces made for an easy push and the signposts directed us to where we needed to go. The lift up to the Spanish Hall was fine for my wheelchair but some larger wheelchairs or powerchairs may be a bit tight. It's one of those lifts that's designed for one wheelchair and not much more.

Toilets

There was an accessible loo in the corridor adjacent to the Spanish Hall. It was clean, spacious and fit for purpose.

Staff

When we visited it was for an event and the volunteers and hosts were fabulous. Great signage, folk with badges saying they were there to help and a real can do approach.

The Winter Gardens is large complex with a lot going on and next time we're in Blackpool it will be high on our list to explore further.
