    Woolwich Arsenal Station

    London

    Woolwich Arsenal DLR Station

    4

    Date of visit: October 2026

I am a disabled person. I have experience of challenges around: accessing toilets and moving around.

I use or have experience of: disabled toilet, wheelchair

The main entrance to the station. There are four steps leading to the entrance which have yellow contrast strips at the edge of each step. There is a grab rail on the far left of the steps. There is a canopy over the entrance which has circular cutouts all along it. There is a teal sign at with the name of the station on it in the centre A wider ticket barrier in the station which has wheelchair, pram and luggage symbols on it. On the right is the point to tap or insert cards and tickets. The main walkway from the main entrance of the station to the lifts for each of the four platforms. A section in the middle of the image has yellow grab rails on either side of the walkway. One of the lifts inside the station. The button to call the lift is on the right-hand side. The lift doors are open and you can see the yellow grab rail running along the back of the lift and the mirror that has been placed on the top half of the back wall of the lift. A lift guide for the station which has a visual map of all the lifts in the station which are lettered to identify each one and which parts of the station they all travel to. The lift that this guide is next to is highlighted in red to highlight whereabouts you currently are in the station. Some seating on the DLR platform which is a bench of four metal seats. The seats have metal backrests and yellow armrests between each seat and at either end. Behind the seats is an information board. At the top of the information board is the name of the station and then signage for the way out and the lifts. A view of one of the DLR platforms. A red DLR train is stopped on the right-hand side. Next to the train you can see the tactile markings and painted yellow line at the edge of the platform. The rest of the platform has a tiled flooring and there are overhead displays with information about where the trains are travelling to and how long until they leave.

Woolwich Arsenal also has National Rail services and Elizabeth line services. The DLR and National Rail lines are based in the same station building, but the Elizabeth line station is a short walk away. This station is at the end of one of the DLR routes so there are only northbound services from here. Because part of this station has National Rail services, there are members of staff located in the ticket hall area, unlike many other DLR stations which are unmanned. The DLR platforms are located underground and there are lifts and escalators that travel from the ticket office, at street level, and the platforms. There are tactile markings at the edge of the platform and there are help points to call for assistance or notify of any emergencies. The DLR trains stop level with the platform with a very minimal gap between the train and the platform.

There are four steps at the front of the station entrance. They have yellow contrast markers at the edge of each step and a grab rail at one end. There is also a ramp located on the right-hand side as you look at the building. There are some signs highlighting where the ramp is located too. The signage inside the station is very clear with overhead signs showing where the DLR and National Rail platforms are and where the lifts are. There is a lift that travels from the ticket office to the DLR platforms which are below ground. The lift had grab rails inside which were yellow and there was a mirror on the back wall of the lift. The buttons inside the lift and to call it were tactile. There were lift guides inside the lift too which highlighted which lifts travelled to each part of the station. The platforms have tactile markings and a painted yellow line at the edge of the platform to indicate where it is. There is seating available along each platform which have backrests and armrests between each seat and at either end. The armrests are painted yellow. The platforms have canopies covering them entirely although they do not cover the tracks, so there may be some spots as you transfer between train and platform that are not protected from bad weather. The station is also still based outside so the platforms do not have any heating or cooling facilities There are help points in the station which provide access to alert of any emergencies or speak to staff. The trains stop level with the platforms and there is only a small gap between the train and the platform at this station. The brand-new DLR trains (as of October 2026) have a much better layout inside the carriage for those in wheelchairs or with prams. The buttons to open the doors are also lower down on the newer trains and therefore easier to reach for someone at a lower level.

I travelled to this place by train

There are two DLR platforms, both offer northbound services as Woolwich Arsenal is at the end of the line. One platform has services travelling to Bank Station and the other has services travelling to Stratford International. The Elizabeth line station is a short walk away and there are some bus stops right outside this station. I didn’t see any parking facilities nearby.

    Staff

There are staff available in the ticket hall area and there are also help points around the station which can connect you to a member of staff.
