Overview

The Woolwich Ferry service, run by TfL, crosses the Thames at (you guessed it right) Woolwich, between the so-called North and South Ferry Terminals. For wheelchair users the service is comfortable and convenient.

Transport & Parking

The nearest step-free station to the north terminal is King George V on the Docklands Light Railway, which is about half a mile away. The nearest step-free station to the south terminal is Woolwich Station on the Elizabeth Line, which is about 0.9 miles away. Both these stations are fully step-free from train to street.

Access

Entry to and exit from the ferry are achieved via the footways approaching the terminal and the pontoon bridge at the terminal. These are entirely step-free, though not entirely smooth, but any wheelchair user should be able to get onto the ferry with only a slightly bumpy ride and no serious obstacles. The doorways into the 'passenger lounge' (actually just a corridor with long rows of seats and a wheelchair space or two) are typical ferry-boat doorways with a big lip at the bottom. Staff will lay down for you a cleverly and thoughtfully designed rubbery wedge-shaped ramp-thingie in front of the doorways to enable a totally smooth transition into the and out of the 'passenger lounge'.

Toilets

I didn't find any toilets on the ferry.

One of the joys of using the Woolwich Ferry is the professional, courteous, charming and helpful behaviour of the staff. Top marks.
