Overview

We visited Anglesey Abbey on the first day of the Snowdrop Tours, so it was packed! Once we were parked and through the visitor centre though, it didn't feel too busy and the winter gardens were spectacular and the smells - divine! We had lunch in the outdoor area of the restaurant and then did the trail marked in orange on the map, which I thoroughly enjoyed. This was one of our best days out in a very long time.

Transport & Parking

When we arrived, it was so busy we thought all the blue badge spaces would be gone. The car park is huge though and we easily managed to find a space. The blue badge spaces are nice and wide, with plenty of space around the car for unloading.

Access

I used my mountain trike for this visit, as I had looked at photos and knew that many trails were gravel or soft bark. With an off-road chair though, they were perfect. We passed loads of mobility scooters too and people using transit chairs. There are three marked trails. The black and white one takes you through the winter gardens, past Lode Mill to the house (which is closed in Feb) and back to the visitor centre. The path is nice and wide. The smells in the garden were wonderful - really strong floral/herby smells. The restaurant also looked busy but they were seating people and their system was quick and efficient. We ate in the picnic garden, where the tables have a wheelchair cut out, so you can get near the table. In the afternoon, we did the trail marked in orange on the map. It was a mixture of gardens, formal paths and woodland. There is a bridge, marked as narrow. The width is 80cm, which was just wide enough for my trike. The gate at the exit was a similar width.

Toilets

4.5

The first toilets we saw, in the car park, the accessible one was out of order. There are toilets inside the visitor centre though and apart from it being busy, that was fine. There are also toilets near the house and we found those less busy and easy to get to.

Staff

Can't fault the staff. The restaurant was heaving but the staff were helpful and aimed to get you seated wherever you wanted to be, as quickly as possible. You could then go and order food, which they bring to the table. It was all really efficient and we had a lovely relaxed lunch.

Photos

Large clear maps are posted all around the estate, with marked trails. Narrow bridge - 80 cm Path along the stream at Lode Mill House with paths going around the lawns in front of it. Picnic area of the restaurant, with plenty of space but soft bark chipping surface. Narrow bridge with mountain trike on it.
