Overview
Bea's of Bloomsbury is a small chain of 3 cafes, with their new Russell Square branch being their flagship cafe. They serve delicious, home-made breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas and their speciality are their cakes. Look out for their Duffins, part donut and part muffin. The cafe has a modern, contemporary design.
Transport & Parking
The cafe is directly on Russell Square, with a number of different, accessible bus route passing the door and stopping near by. The nearest tube station is Russell Square, but it is not step free. Euston Square tube only had step free access westboud only,. So the nearest fully step free tube is King's Cross and from there you can take a bus. It's in a great location directly opposite Russell Square Gardens, 5 minutes from the British Museum, in the opposite direction 5 minutes from Great Ormand Street Hospital, and round the corner from the Brunswick Centre.
Access
There are a couple of free standing table and chairs directly outside of the cafe. The entrance has an extremely thin step up. Inside all the tables and chairs are free standing. Although there is table service, there is a counter displaying their range of cakes and this is at 2 different levels. The entire cafe is on ground floor level.
Toilets
There is an accessible toilet which is spacious, has grab rails and an emergency cord, which was not reaching the floor when i arrived.
Staff
Service was very friendly, welcoming and very prompt. When we went to pay I mentioned about the emergency cord not reaching to the floor. The response was I didnt realise that but it makes sense, well sort it. The other member of staff says that she works with people with special needs.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Bea's has been a long standing favourite cake place of mine. Their new branch in Russell Square has excellent access. Our food was delicious and of a high quality. I had a cream tea and the scones were served warm :) and my friend had cake. Theres a lovely laid back and relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend and plan to visit again soon.
