Overview

Very accessible, delicious food and drinks, lovely staff

Transport & Parking

I got a taxi to Elder Street, which is the road between the St James Quarter and Multrees Walk that comes up from Queen Street. I could have got dropped off in the multi-storey car park, which has dedicated 'disabled' spaces on each level and lifts close to them. Alternatively I could have got dropped off at Little King Street which is to the right of John Lewis on Leith Street, or at Register Square at the top of Leith Street at the east end of Princes Street. Lots of buses to Princes Street, Queen Street and Leith Street.

Access

The Elder St entrance has level access to L2 of the centre. It's open to the street with bollards (presumably to prevent vehicles from entering). Nice shiny floors for the scooter to zoom about on. As far as I could tell, the whole centre is level throughout.. Plenty of lifts which are reasonably well signposted. Ka Pao is up on L4, sort of tucked behind Salerno Pizza - the door was too heavy for me to pull open, but staff quickly saw me waving and heard me knocking, and rushed to assist. Once inside there was plenty of room. The tables are chunky enough to lean on, and there was plenty of room between tables to park my scooter.

The loos are round past the kitchen. There's a door to negotiate but staff were quick to help. The accessible loo had plenty of room, grab rails, a red cord and cancel button. The sink was appropriately lowered. However, as usual the paper towel dispenser was on the opposite wall from the sink, meaning that you have to manoeuvre about with slippy wet hands to get to it. This can be pretty dangerous and unfortunately seems to be ubiquitous

Friendly, knowledgeable about the food and drink and keen to assist

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The food is delicious - particularly the Arbroath Smokie and corn rib dishes. It's really designed for sharing, so perhaps not for you if you like to jealously guard your plate. We ordered four dishes and a rice between two of us, and then shared the ice cream. We started with cocktails (unusual and yummy) and then had a carafe of Picpoul. There are lots of veggie/vegan dishes, clearly marked on the menu - as were allergens. I can't wait to go back to try the dishes that I missed on this visit.
