Restwell Retreats is a spacious, newly adapted wheelchair-accessible bungalow just a few minutes’ walk from Tankerton beach and around a 20-minute stroll from Whitstable town centre and harbour. This single-storey property is step-free throughout, with wide doorways, a light and airy open-plan living room and conservatory, and a fully equipped kitchen featuring a lowered, wheel-under work surface.

The accessible bedroom includes two profiling beds and a full-room-coverage ceiling hoist, with a mobile hoist and a Sara Stedy stand aid available for use throughout the bungalow. The accessible wet room has a step-free shower, fixed and drop-down grab rails, a shower/commode, tilt-in-space chairs, a Geberit AquaClean wash/dry WC, and a height-adjustable wheel-under washbasin.

Two bedrooms sleep up to 5 guests, and the bungalow can be tailored to each guest’s needs, with furniture, beds and equipment repositioned on request. Care and support can be arranged locally through Continuity Care Services, from companionship through to complex care and 24/7 support.

Guests are welcomed with a hamper, and there is an enclosed, level-access garden with patio and BBQ, a private driveway, and dog-friendly facilities.

Restwell Retreats is a single-storey bungalow built for step-free access throughout. A firm, level resin-paved surface runs from the private driveway to a wide front door (965 mm clear), with a level threshold and no step. Inside, the open-plan ground floor has no internal steps, level flooring with no carpet lips, and wide internal doorways (926 mm clear), giving plenty of turning and manoeuvring space. The living room, kitchen, both bedrooms, wet room and conservatory are all on the same level. Exact measurements, turning circles and grab-rail positions can be provided on request.

Private driveway with two off-road spaces (adapted vehicles welcome), and a firm, level, resin-paved route that is step-free from the car to the wide front door, so it also works as a drop-off point right at the entrance. It isn't a painted accessible bay, but the driveway is private to the property, level, and has room to transfer beside the vehicle. No residents' permits are required on this road, and additional on-street parking is usually available nearby, though do check the signs on arrival in case the street rules change.

Transport nearby Restwell Retreats

The closest railway station is Whitstable, approximately 2.6 miles away, which takes about 9 minutes to drive. It offers step-free access to both platforms through separate street-level entrances: Old Bridge Road serves Platform 1 (toward London), and Railway Avenue serves Platform 2 (toward Margate and Ramsgate). However, there is no step-free link between the platforms, as the footbridge connecting them has stairs. It’s recommended to use the entrance aligned with your travel direction. The nearest bus stop, The Plough, is about a 4-minute walk (0.2 miles) from the location and is served by bus routes 400, 903, 904, 905, and 906.

The toilet is a Geberit AquaClean wash-and-dry WC with remote and touch controls. The washbasin is fully height-adjustable and can swing aside, allowing it to be set at a comfortable height or moved out of the way for transfers or assistance. Additional equipment includes a shower commode chair, a tilt-in-space shower chair, and a perching stool. The wet room is on the ground floor, as the property is single-storey. For those seeking full Changing Places facilities, a registered one is available at Whitstable Harbour, accessible with a RADAR key.

The accessible bedroom can accommodate one or two profiling beds, depending on your needs, and is equipped with a ceiling hoist that covers the entire room, bedside aids, ample space around the bed, and a wall-mounted TV. Guests can also use a mobile hoist and a Sara Stedy stand aid in the bedroom and throughout the bungalow. The second bedroom features a double bed and a wall-mounted TV, while the conservatory offers a double sofa bed, laundry facilities, and garden views. The open-plan living area includes a riser/recliner chair, and the modern kitchen has a lowered/wheel-under worksurface and a slide-under oven. The layout can be customised to suit individual needs, with furniture, beds, and equipment rearranged upon request. Detailed measurements and specifications are available. Mobility aids such as a raised toilet seat/frame can also be provided. Care and support services can be arranged through our partner, Continuity Care Services, which offers everything from companionship to complex 24/7 care. The bungalow is dog-friendly and welcomes assistance dogs.
