Free museum with good wheelchair access New
Visit date:
This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Assistance Dog, Wheelchair
Overview
We visited this museum whilst in Lerwick on a motorhome holiday. It tells the history of Shetland, including geology, wildlife and culture. It is really interesting and informative.
Transport & Parking
There is a car park with blue badge parking. We didn't use it because we wanted to park our motorhome in one place for the whole day and the car park didn't look to have longer spaces.
Access
There is a ramp to get into the museum and then easy access once inside. There are lifts at each end to the upper floor. There is plenty of space to get round with a wheelchair and I was able to access all areas. I had my assistance dog with me. She wasn't keen on the stuffed animals, particularly the lifesize bull! From previous reviews, we were looking forward to the cafe but this is now permanently closed... or at least, for now.
Toilets
There are a couple of accessible toilets, which were clean and well equipped.
Staff
All staff were lovely! They were helpful and gave us useful information about how to get around the museum.
