The Barrelman is positioned on Commercial Street right in the heart of Dundee’s city centre. It is a laid-back spot with charm and personality to spare, a home away from home to relax in warm and comfortable surroundings with a vast range of gins, rums and other libations. We proudly serve fresh Scottish produce, artisan coffee, hand-crafted cocktails and a delectable selection of beers, wines, spirits and bubbly. The barrelman was the person stationed up high in a barrel on the foremasts of early oceangoing vessels to help with navigation. There was a barrelman on the RRS Discovery and so we bring together Dundee’s seafaring past with the adventure of exploring new flavours.

Good access and good food

We've eaten here several times now without any problems. The entrance is flat and although the doors can be awkward a member of staff is usually ready to help.

At The Barrelman, we are proud to offer a warm and accessible environment for all our guests. Our entrance is conveniently located at ground level, with wide double doors and no steps, ensuring easy access for everyone. Inside, our main bar and restaurant area is set entirely on one level, featuring a variety of seating options — including lower tables and a spacious layout to allow for easy movement throughout the venue. We provide an accessible bathroom on the main floor, fully equipped with all necessary amenities, along with a lowered section of the bar for ease of service. On-street parking is available nearby, and we welcome assistance dogs — as well as all four-legged friends — with a special dog menu available to make sure every guest feels at home. For guests who may require additional support, we offer large print versions of our food menus. Our team members are fully first aid trained and certified in Disability Awareness through CPL Learning, ensuring that all guests are treated with sensitivity, care, and respect. Our online reservation system allows guests to select options such as wheelchair access in advance of their booking, with space to leave messages for any specific needs they may have. Should you require any assistance before or during your visit, our friendly team is always happy to help. Our accessible bathroom is located on the ground floor with no steps, providing smooth, easy access directly from the main dining and bar areas. The entrance features a wide, easy-glide sliding door and an easy-turn lock handle, designed for ease of use for all guests. The space is generously sized to accommodate powered wheelchairs, and includes thoughtfully positioned grab rails for additional support. Inside, guests will find: • A comfort-height toilet for ease of transfer • A lowered sink and mirror suitable for seated users • A non-slip floor for safety • An emergency pull-cord alarm for immediate assistance if required • A conveniently placed, easy-to-reach waste disposal system Our facilities are designed not just to meet expectations, but to offer a dignified, safe and enjoyable experience for every guest.
