Very inclusive and welcoming

Absolutely love our visits to the Grand Pier. As a person with a disability (and an assistance dog) we have never had any issues. There is a wide gate for wheelchair users to access the pier. Local people (like me) can get a locals pier card which gives me and my carers free access. The bar is always happy to provide water for my assistance dog. There are lots of coin machines, grab machines, and other games, I can play on. And a lift to get upstairs to play crazy golf and go in the mirror maze. The cafe has the best views in Weston and the food is great. Honestly, I love visiting the pier. And I love that the staff are able to recognise working assistance dogs. If I was giving areas for improvement I would ask for a “changing places” bathroom and suggest they speak to the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme so that disabled visitors to Weston can have a free carer with them too.

A review of The Grand Pier

The centre walkway of the pier is covered and leads to the Main Pavilion. Inside which are the rides and attractions, with lift and escalator access to the first floor. Their Function Rooms also provide access for guests with disabilities. The 4D Cinema on the first floor has wheelchair access.

Disabled Access at The Grand Pier

The Pier is accessed via a gradual incline to reach the turnstiles including an accessibility friendly gateway. You can enjoy our restaurant and cafe/bar facilities all of which are situated on the ground floor with step free access. Tables are well spaced apart with a clear height from the floor of 700mm with chairs without arms and there are no steps to get to the tables. There are multiple disabled toilets on the ground floor along with minimum 850mm wide doors throughout the Pier. The pavilion is well lit with overhead lighting. The main Pavilion area has several hundred machines in it with LED lighting, some flashing and music. You can find the standard lift in the main pavilion or use the escalator to access the first floor to find more rides, games, soft play area, café and prize shop. On the first floor there is another disabled toilet for your convenience. These toilets have a unisex accessible toilet, and are described as light, easy open door 900mm transfer space to the left of the toilet when facing the toilet. The toilet height is 400mm with a horizontal rail on the side wall adjacent to the toilet as well as vertical rails both sides of the toilet and basin. The floor is nonslip laminate altro and the basin and toilet are both white. There is an emergency alarm pull cord with a flashing light when the fire alarm sounds. The toilets are well lit with a low-level pull cord. There are lever taps on the sinks. We welcome any assistance dogs and our friendly team would love to assist in getting your companion a bowl of water. The Pier is currently in the process of creating a quiet space for any of our guests who may get overwhelmed during their visit. All carers have free entry. When a disabled visitor purchases a ride wristband their essential companion will receive one for free, these can be collected from the Prize Shop on the first floor of the Pavilion. The fire alarm has flashing lights as a visual aid as giving verbal instruction. Our staff are also on hand to buddy up and assist anyone off the Pier if necessary. Allergen information is available at the point of purchase via a QR code or simply asking our friendly staff. We have first aid personnel on site. In the event that first aid is required please notify a member of staff.

Toilets features at The Grand Pier

There are 2 accessible toilets on the ground floor, one outside Tiffany's restaurant and the other just off the Pavilion. We have an additional accessible toilet on the first floor in between prize shop and Adventure Cove plus one on the 3rd floor for any private functions held in Regency Suite.
