The Scottish Parliament at Holyrood is the home of Scottish democracy. We are open throughout the year and offer the opportunity to watch Parliamentary business taking place, and on certain days there are free guided tours and talks. We also have an exhibition, a café and gift shop.

Brilliant Experience at the venue

Was brilliant. I pre-booked on the WelcoMe app to let them know I was coming and the staff were good when I got there from coming to meet me at the security station to making sure I can get around the building and explaining everything to me

Festival of Politics (and a quick review)

I attended a Festival of Politics talk titled "Does transport work for disabled people in Scotland?" at the Scottish Parliament. This is a whirlwind review - I did not experience all of the accessible features available. I visited the Changing Places toilet, one of the accessible loos, the presentation and had a brief look at the foyer. What I did see looked well thought out.

Great Access

Wheelchair accessibility, hearing loops, and restrooms are all features of the Parliament building's accessible design. Wheelchair-accessible public spaces include galleries and guided tours, and Blue Badge disabled parking is offered. However, because of a lack of assistive technology, discrimination, and limited resources, it can lead to negative experiences and make it difficult for people with disabilities to participate in a range of events.

Disabled Access at The Scottish Parliament

Visitors enter from the public entrance on Horse Wynd. The entrance is level with the street and signposted. The main door is automatic. Once inside you will be asked to pass through an airport-style security check. When you come into the building you can view the exhibition in the Main Hall, visit the café, shop or join a tour - depending on which day you visit. You can take the lift or stairs to Level 2 to visit the public gallery of the Debating Chamber. On business days you need to get a ticket from the Visitor Information Desk to visit the gallery.

Disabled access

Accessible parking at The Scottish Parliament

A small number of public parking spaces are reserved for disabled people on Horse Wynd. Please note that these parking bays are for visitors to the Holyrood area in general, not just for visitors to the Parliament

Dedicated on site parking

Toilets features at The Scottish Parliament

Accessible toilet facilities are provided throughout the building. Staff will advise visitors of the nearest available facilities.

Changing Places toilet

There is a Changing Places toilet, which includes an adult-size changing bench, toilet, sink and hoist.

Accessible toilet

A designated accessible toilet designed for wheelchair users and others with visible and non-visible accessibility requirements is available within the main public areas.

A mobile, gantry or ceiling-track hoist is available for use in at least one wheelchair-accessible bedroom.
