The Tenement House provides a rare glimpse into life in Glasgow in the early 20th century, in the faithfully restored four-room house lived in by Miss Agnes Toward for over half a century. This first-floor flat is a typical late Victorian example, consisting of four rooms and retaining most of its original features such as its bed recesses, kitchen range, coal bunker and bathroom. The furniture, furnishings and personal possessions of Miss Agnes Toward, who lived here for over fifty years, present a fascinating picture of domestic life at the beginning of the 20th century.

Very Accommodating

Turned up at noon at a busy time, and casually asked the entrance staff of touch rules, and while informed we could not touch exhibits, we were pointed to dedicated touch displays. While going around, another staff member introduced herself and informed us that she had set up items we could touch and smell to improve our experience. This was unprompted and very welcome. They didn't make a huge deal but were one of the most accommodating and welcoming exhibit we've been to. The house is a typical tenement so was narrow with lots of (uneven) stairs however this is unavoidable considering the exhibit. The staff were very friendly and made the experience magical. It was very immersive and would recommend it to anyone!
