Good access and connections but not a pleasant experience

West Ham Station is located in East London and is on the Jubilee, DLR, District and Hammersmith & City lines. All of the platforms at this station provide step-free access on and off the trains, meaning the gap between the train and the platform is so small that there is no need for boarding ramps. One thing I did find odd when navigating this station was that the lift from the Jubilee line platforms brought me out on the wrong side of a one-way system. The station has metal barriers down the centre of the overhead walkway and this maintains a strict one-way system. However, because of where the lifts are located, I was stuck on the wrong side as it was the only way to get between the lift for the Jubilee platforms and the lift for the ticket hall and other lines. I was fortunate that the station wasn’t too busy when I was there, but even so, I had a couple of close calls with people coming around a corner quickly, not expecting me to be coming in the opposite direction. I also found that this station felt very unclean. There were even a few spots, especially by some of the lifts where there were some really overwhelmingly unpleasant smells. I appreciated the step-free access and connections that this station offered me; however, I found the experience of navigating the station unpleasant and I think it would be even worse at busy times.
