    October Review Roundup

We would like to start by thanking everyone who has shared their experience with us in October. We have a wide range of reviews, from tourist attractions to new venues and lots more for you to explore!

    Exploring the outdoors

Autumn is a great season to explore outdoors, and this month we have lots of places and spaces to share that include accessible footpaths and access to the outdoors.

Wheelyp has been exploring Bury Hill Nature Reserve. The nature reserve has designated areas for exercising your dog. WheelyP advises against this route as a wheelchair user if the weather has been wet as it can be very boggy, making it difficult to move around.

If you're looking for a bite to eat nearby, WheelyP recommends The Poplar Farm pub which has good access and a good selection of food.

New reviewer zen602866443 has been exploring the newly formed nature reserve Lower Otter National Nature Reserve. The reserve includes a newly created accessible walkway, which can be accessed from different directions from the car parks at either end of the path.

There is a café and accessible toilets along the walkway, should you need to stop along the way for a rest. zen602866443 recommends starting from the car park at the postcode EX9 7AZ,their preferred starting point for a walk around the nature reserve. The review includes some fantastic pictures of the walkways and also views onto the beach. Welcome to Euan’s Guide and thank you for sharing your first review - we can’t wait to see where you go next!

Euan’s Guide Ambassador emacleod had a great time visiting the Japanese Gardens at Cowden with her husband. As an electric wheelchair user, she mentions that the paths around the gardens are made up of fine gravel and are fairly accessible for her in her powered wheelchair.

There were other visitors using manual wheelchairs being pushed around the gardens; the paths might be slightly more challenging for anyone using a manual wheelchair.

Near the entrance there is dedicated accessible parking and a gift shop and a picnic area with plenty of seating. The review includes photographs showing the layout of the gardens and the car park. Thank you so much for sharing your experience of what looks like a lovely place to visit for a day out.

    Places to visit

Deealingwithit visited the Twisted Willow Café at the Moot Hall in Keswick with a friend who is a wheelchair user and so was able to give an overall access review of the café and gift shop which they visited recently.

They placed a Euan’s Guide Red Cord Card in the accessible toilet and also asked the staff to replace the cord as it was too short. The staff are also very helpful and welcoming to everyone. The café is highly recommended for its selection of food and snacks.

New reviewer H highly recommends the new venue Madame Lola's Cabaret and Vaudeville club in Brighton and Hove.

The accessibility of the main venue is step free with good access to the main stage area for wheelchair users. As a new and developing venue some areas are not accessible yet such as the toilets. The staff are working hard to make positive changes to the accessibility of the venue to make it welcoming and open to everyone, and are really keen to help anyone the best way that they can.

ScooterReviews recently visited the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre. They reviewed the accessible toilets within the theatre. There are two accessible toilets, one toilet needs a RADAR key and the other doesn’t. The toilet was very clean and had a red emergency cord which unfortunately was tied up and so had to be untangled.

We know that many disabled people within our community cannot visit a venue unless they know it has an accessible toilet. Thank you so much for your review and sharing your experience. It makes a huge difference by giving people the confidence to go out.

    Accessible accommodation

Our community tells us that one of the main things that they look for when staying somewhere new is accessible accommodation, so we are very grateful to all our reviewers who share their experience around accessible accommodation.

Audiominx visited The Old Grammar Country House in Cartmel. They said that they had a great experience and that the room had an accessible shower room. Although the room is quite small, it had all the facilities that were needed and the staff were also very helpful.

There is a stone ramp at the entrance to the hotel and a welcoming woodburning stove in the lounge area to sit around with family and friends. The food is highly recommended by local people as well - always a good sign!.

    Review of the month

October's Review of the Month is from dealingwithit.

They visited the Twisted Willow Café at Moot hall in Keswick with a friend who is a wheelchair user and so were able to review the venue from different points of view. They commented on the helpfulness of the staff, the spacious layout of the café and the selection of food that was available on the menu.

Thank you very much for your fantastic review and we can wait to see where you go next!
