SEA LIFE Brighton

This historic aquarium is almost entirely accessible. They offer free carer/companion tickets if you meet certain eligibility criteria. The accessible entrance can be a bit hard to find - you have to go down one of the ramps on the pier-side of the street and cross under the street through a sort of tunnel. At the moment, the main tunnel is closed due to construction, so we had to overshoot the entrance by about 50 metres and take a further ramp and double back. Inside, the main alleyways are wide and easy to navigate by mobility scooter, although there are a few tight corners, particularly heading from one hall into the next. The tanks are mostly one step up from the ground, so the view you get is different from a mobility scooter, but I was still able to see the animals well.

Accessibility access is diffult to find: Go down the road on the sea side of the aquarium until you get to the Zip Deck, go down the slope to the beach (towards the pier) and then find the tunnel under the road to the courtyard of the aquarium. It is an old historic building but there should be more signs to show the way. Had to ask locals. Some tanks can be seen only from lower levels unless you can climb stairs e.g glass bottom boat is not accessible. They have tried with lots of little stools to sit on but on day I went the lock to the disabled toilet was broken. A kind person waited outside until I finished. The building being historic is of interest to those interested in architecture. It was a Thursday but busy Incidentailly said you needed to book ahead or by smart phone. This was not true paid at the front door by debit card. It is expensive! Staff were helpful opening and holding open doors which are used to keep heat and humididty in.
