June Review Round up

A picture of the outside of planet Bar and Kitchen Edinburgh

This month we have a whole new selection of reviews which will inspire, and give you confidence to explore somewhere new. If you’ve been somewhere that you’ve enjoyed visiting then please don’t forget to leave a review on Euan’s Guide.

Things to see and do

Wendywoo is a new reviewer and a regular visitor to RSPB Loch Garten. In this review Wendywoo tells us about the new Changing Places Toilet. “The new accessible loo is hands down the best disabled toilet I’ve ever used.” That is some seriously positive praise and we can’t wait to find out what other people think - please add your reviews this summer! Thank you Wendy for your first review, we hope to see you reviewing again soon!

Karine1985 and her wife Sarah visited the Louvre while in Paris. They gave their experience four stars. While they did experience some access challenges around how busy the museum was, they did find the staff very helpful and caring. They had a great visit. If you’re planning a trip to Paris make sure you check out our Paris review round up blog post!

Exploring beaches, outdoor spaces and theme parks

CharlieChalk visited Pdhu Cove in Cornwall. Thanks to a wooden boardwalk on the beach he was able to enjoy time exploring the beach with his family. He gave his experience four stars. There’s also a café near the beach where you can get takeaway teas and coffees. Unfortunately the boardwalk doesn't stretch all the way to the café - so you’d probably need someone with you to collect the order if you can’t access the cafe without the boardwalk.

Luke visited the walled garden in Moreton. He comments on the accessibility of the garden for his mobility scooter. Most of the garden areas are accessible via gravel paths, apart from the Chilean Arboretum, which has exposed tree roots. This sounds like a great day for anyone who enjoys exploring the outdoors. Luke gave his experience 3.5 stars.

Neweratourism have done a really informative video review of their visit to Thorpe park. They visited as a family to see what had changed since the last visit. They viewed different areas of the park, including the shop and the options of different rides to try. The park looks like a really inclusive day out with something for everyone to try.

Places to stay
MrsGap visited Martin Lane Farm Holiday Cottages in Burscough. She enjoyed staying in an accessible holiday cottage and comments on the accessibility of the cottage which made for a great holiday. The level access driveway, and accessible wet room shower are a definite bonus, although Mrs Gap gives some really helpful suggestions for improvements and praises the staff for how helpful they were.

Disabled Traveller visited Heythrop Park Hotel in Enstone he gave a very detailed and informative review of his stay in an accessible room in the hotel. There are lots of very interesting photographs which give a clear understanding of the facilities that are available to make the most of your stay. Thank you for your review and we look forward to seeing where you visit next this summer!

Accessible pubs, bars and restaurants.

Pat Avery is a Review Coodinator at Euan’s Guide and they have been out and about exploring some of the gay and queer bars and restaurants in both Edinburgh and Glasgow. Pat shared their review of Planet bar and kitchen in Edinburgh. The bar has a very welcoming atmosphere for any visitors and has many good points in terms of accessibility and some which are on the way to being improved. “It put me right in the mood to cheer on a drag performer or belt my heart out on the wee stage, bathed in the sparkle of several disco balls and the iconic walls.” Thank you for sharing your experience Pat! We look forward to seeing where you visit next.

MarsMacCrossan reviewed Costa Coffee in Glasgow while having coffee with her mum and fiance. They had a very positive experience and gave their visit four stars. “No steps, there was good signage, and staff were readily help if I needed help reading the menu. There was lots of seating.” Thank you very much for your review Mars. We are really glad that you had a successful visit and we look forward to seeing your next review.

Skybluehanuel visited Singl-end café and restaurant on Renfrew Street in Glasgow for some lunch. Hanuel had a lovely lunch and overall a successful visit. She highlights in her review the importance of making the venue aware of your access requirements ahead of your visit. By doing this staff were made aware of the support that she needed, and this helped her visit to run more smoothly by planning ahead. “Staff seemed aware of my access requirements, likely thanks to the note added to the booking.” It is always great news when the staff at a venue listen to your access requirements and make you feel more comfortable during your visit. Thank you for your review Hanuel, we hope you will consider going back to the venue and we appreciate you sharing your feedback.

Review of the Month - June

The review for this month comes from Mars McCrossan who enjoyed spending time in Costa Coffee in Glasgow with her mum and fiance. Mars enjoyed spending time with her friends and family in a calm clean environment which suited her access requirements. The staff were very helpful and they did everything they could to make the visit run smoothly. It’s a great example of a business welcoming disabled people by having a positive approach to disabled access.
