Difficult Access for lone wheelchair/ powerchair/scooter users but with outside seating
Visit date:
This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Wheelchair, Powerchair, Mobility Scooter
Overview
This is a beautiful pub/restaurant that serves excellent food and one of the best carveries I have eaten, however access is difficult and the disabled toilet small and difficult to use
Transport & Parking
Buses are very few and far between, I recommend visiting by car Large car park with tightly packed gravel and tarmac surface
Access
The entrance is around the side down a short cobbled path, through a small easily managed latched gate and to the door. As an active and very able manual wheelchair user I still could not manage the entrance alone. There is a set of manual double doors one of which is bolted from the interior. Luckily I had someone with me who could go inside and unlock the second door. There is a high threshold step that can be accessed by a wheelchair user with a pusher but inaccessible to a powerchair, scooter or to most manual users alone. There is however seating outside with gorgeous views. Once inside, there is plenty of room in both a large conservatory or the main body of the pub (where the carvery is served) There is table service. There is a lovely children's play area outside
Toilets
There is an accessible toilet however it is small with barely room for a carer. Doubles up as a baby changing area
Staff
All staff are very pleased to assist and go out of their way to do so. There is plenty of room to get around the dining areas without other patrons having to move.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
This is a charming pub, an old building with a built on extension giving plenty of room The views are amazing and on a warm day if using a powerchair/scooter or manual wheelchair alone accessibility is not a problem as you can sit outdoors.
