fab disabled parking right outside, ease of access and helpful staff...everything just how I`d like it....except no changing places loo..or I didnt spot it...

The Royal Armouries

Around the museum there were lots of interactive activities for all, the corridors were nice and wide for wheel chair users and lifts were easily signposted and located on each floor. Demonstrations took place in big open areas were all could see what was going on. We will defiantly go back to the Royal Armouries for another visit. The museum was entirely open and airy, there were no tight enclosed spaces, even the lifts were made of glass with a lovely view out across Leeds river.

Fabulous - wow! Better than the Tower of London

The most comprehensive armouries that we've visited; so vast and with so many nationalities. Good accessibility, we visited with someone using a wheelchair and had friendly staff and an easy visit. Would recommend.

Disabled Access at Royal Armouries Museum

The Royal Armouries welcomes visitors with disabilities and is committed to providing them with appropriate facilities, and hope your visit is enjoyable and memorable. We value your visit and your viewpoints on the services that we provide and welcome feedback. Drop-off point There is a drop-off point, close to accessible parking spaces, 100 metres from the Museum entrance across Armouries Square which is an open, level, paved area. Access to the museum entrance from the accessible parking spaces is step free. At the door The main entrance to the Museum has two sets of automatic doors. On the left is the Master's Cafe, which also has an accessible toilet. Information desk The Information Desk is located 30 metres from the main entrance at the end of the entrance hall next to the Hall of Steel and the gallery lifts. A member of staff will welcome you and provide you with an information sheet with a list of the day’s activities and a map of the museum. They will also be happy to help with any requests. --->New for Summer 2019 Five sensory backpacks are now available to borrow for free for autistic children and young people. They contain an appealing selection of items ranging from fun and soothing sensory toys to ear-defenders, and have been created to support and enhance the museum experience for both children and families. These resources are available free of charge from the Reception on the Ground Floor, and can be used for any length of time during your visit. They should be returned to the Reception desk. Access to galleries The galleries are on the upper four floors of the Museum and are accessible via the lifts next to the Information Desk. Lifts are fitted with audio announcements, handrails, and operation buttons at the rear of the lift at a height suitable for wheelchair users. Comfort seating Visitors who find standing difficult can use the portable folding seats found in every gallery. There are also window seats in the gallery areas and in the entrance hall. Wheelchairs There are four manual wheelchairs available to borrow for the duration of your visit. These are allocated on a first come, first served basis. Please ask at the Information Desk upon your arrival. Mobility scooters Visitors are welcome to use their mobility scooters within the Museum and all galleries are accessible via the lifts. Emergency evacuation In the event of an evacuation of the building, a Museum Assistant will explain the quickest and safest way to exit the Museum. Please follow the directions given. Assistance will be provided if required.

Accessible parking at Royal Armouries Museum

There are five accessible parking spaces provided for visitors with disabilities in the coach park area, next to the Holiday Inn just 100 metres from the Museum entrance. Parking for Museum visitors is only available during museum opening hours of 10.00am to 5.00pm. During the hours the Museum is closed facilities are available in the adjacent multi-story car park. To access these parking spaces: ◾Continue straight on past the entrance of the multi-story car park into the “Service” road. ◾Ignore the No Entry signs labelled “except for loading and coaches”. ◾Proceed along the road with the Holiday Inn hotel on your left. This road has speed bumps. ◾Follow the road around the roundabout with a cannon in the centre. ◾Three spaces are immediately on the right. ◾Two more spaces are on the left beyond the “Drop-off point” area. Further parking spaces are available on the ground floor of the nearby multi-storey car park. These are chargeable. Free parking for minibuses is available, please contact us to book a space in our coach parking.

Adapted accessible toilets can be found throughout the Museum at the following locations: ◾To the rear of the entrance hall on the left ◾At the rear of the Master's Cafe, which is located on the ground floor next to the main entrance ◾Floors 1 and 4 close to the lifts Due to the age of the building, Some of the accessible toilets do not meet current access standards – being 200mm shorter than recommended.
